The Dragons are now 6-0 after defeating Trophy Club’s Byron Nelson 49-0. Sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers was his efficient self during the Friday night game at Dragon Stadium, passing 25 for 30 (83%) for 312 yards. DFW Elite Realty Player of the Game, sponsored by Thomas & Sharon Michael, Realtors, Wills Meyer was unstoppable catching a season-high 11 passes for 216 yards and all three of Ewers TDs. Meyer has become Ewer’s primary target accounting for 572 yards and eight touchdowns through the Dragons’ first six games.

While Ewers and Meyer worked well together, Ewers also spread the ball well with seven different receivers catching a pass throughout the game. John Manero caught 6 of 36 yards and acts as the team’s other highly reliable receiver. And freshman running back Owen Allen has more than held his own as he fills in for rushing squad depleted by injury. It took him just 14 carries to rush for 114 yards and secure three touchdowns. But Ewers stats still set to impress week after week as he has thrown for 1,797 yards and has 19 TDs on the season.
But the shut-out scoreboard proved it wasn’t just the offense who came to play. The Dragons’ defense only allowed for 214 total yards, 101 passing and 113 rushing, during the game. Graham Faloona again led the team with 11 tackles, which leaves him with 65 on the season. Preston Forney, Dillon Springer and Josh Sweat each had a sack, and James Miscoll had an interception, which was well-received by the energetic Pink Out Night crowd.
Thanks to the October 11 victory, Southlake jumped up in the national rankings. The Dragons are now No. 15 according to MaxPreps.com and No. 23 according to USA Today. The Dragons look to keep the energy up as they take on the Keller Fossil Ridge Panthers this week.
Last year, the Dragons won 47-26 at home, in part because of the 205 yards rushing put up by TJ McDaniel. This year, the Panthers are led by quarterback Austin Stohlmann and running back Colione Evans, a senior duo who help the balanced Panthers average just over 230 yards of offense per game. Look for Forney, Springer, Bunten and the undefeated Dragons to stunt the run while the secondary feasts on the turnover-prone Panthers.
