The Dragons have some new hardware. After a successful showing at the 6A Texas State Championship Meet in Round Rock on Saturday, November 9, both the boys and girls cross country teams took home state titles.
“It’s really hard to express in words how proud of our kids we are,” head cross country coach Justin Leonard says via press release. “Our runners set a goal last year to win the state meet this season and they worked extremely hard to achieve it. It was a total team effort by everyone in or program. Our kids were at their best when it mattered the most and I’m just so thankful that I got to be apart of their journey.”
The boys finished the meet with 80 points, followed by Conroe The Woodlands (115 points) and Lewisville Flower Mound (133 points). Solomon Chavez placed first for the Dragons at sixth overall and was followed by Antonio Florcruz, Tim McElaney, Joe Gardner, Michael McCabe, Nate Lannen and Brett Gilley.
The girls had no issue securing their first-place finish with a score of 45 points. Humble Kingwood (91 points) and Prosper (105 points) followed. Jenna Holland finished the meet fifth overall and was followed by Katherine McElaney, Grace Williamson, Tatum Foreman, Abigail McIlvain, Lydia Lo and Kaylie Cox.
