Four Carroll Cross Country teams finished big at the 39th annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic this past weekend. According to a Southlake Carroll Cross Country media release, the Elite Varsity Dragon girls and boys and Varsity Dragon girls and boys teams traveled to Norco, CA to race against more than 350 teams across the country in a three-mile course.
Of the four teams, the Elite Varsity Dragon girls placed the highest at second place in the Sweepstakes Division thanks to the likes of Kaylie Cox, Jenna Holland, Lydia Lo, Tatum Forman and Katherine McElaney. The Elite Varsity Dragon girls tied for first in the competition on points overall but finished second based on the tie-breaker.
The Elite Varsity Dragon boys and the Varisty Dragon girls placed third in their Sweepstakes and Rated Varsity Divisions respectively. Nate Lannen, Antonio Florcruz, Tim McElaney, Chase Fisher and Solomon Chavez propelled the boys to third, while Grace Williamson, Kayli Jones, Natalie Ng, Laurel Hook and Kristen Mader secured the Varsity girls in the top three of the Rated Varsity Division.
The Varsity Dragon boys team finished ninth in the Rated Varsity Division. Joe Gardner led the boys in 35th place while Jayden Chambless, Kieran Bierne, Matt Hetrick and Brett Gilley all ranked among the top 100.
“Our boys and girls teams performed really well and represented our program and Texas on a big stage,” head coach Justin Leonard says in the release. “Running against national-caliber individuals and teams will pay off when it matters the most. Our focus remains on a championship season, but placing second, third and ninth was a big accomplishment.”
You can catch the Carroll Cross Country teams next at their Carroll Dragons Cross Country Classic, which they will host on Saturday morning at Bob Jones Park. Their next national competition will be at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival, which will be held on Saturday, October 5 at the University of Arkansas.
