The Dragons shined during their annual “Green Out” game last Friday, defeating the Cedar Hill Longhorns 47-6.
Despite another high-scoring affair and a 48-yard field goal from Tyler White, the defense stood out the most, holding the Longhorns to just 223 yards while also forcing two turnovers. The Dragons kept the pressure on all night long with outstanding performances from Dragon Pride Player Of The Week Aaron Scherp, who led the team with 10 tackles, and fellow linebacker Nigel Fodor with his seven tackles. Free safety Carter High was also busy in the secondary with eight tackles on the night.
In total, the team rushed 33 times to just 15 passes. With the return of the school’s all-time career rushing leader in Owen Allen and an experienced offensive line that averages 300 pounds, it was no surprise the Dragons stuck to a run-heavy game plan that kept the clock and the scoreboard running.
Allen led the team again, carrying the ball 11 times for 109 yards and one score. James Lehman had a triumphant debut after missing the first two games of the season. The junior running back rushed six times for 63 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a 14-yard touchdown pass. By the end of the night, five different Dragons carried the ball for 266 yards and two touchdowns.
Quarterback Kaden Anderson made the most of nine passes completed on the night — three for touchdowns. Wide receivers Jacob Jordan and Clayton Wayland each caught separate 27-yard scoring strikes from Anderson as well.
After an undefeated pre-district schedule, the Dragons (3-0) will now turn their attention to their first district game of the season against Keller Timber Creek (1-2), who is coming off a Week Three loss from the Coppell Cowboys 38-44. The homecoming game will be played at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 at Dragon Stadium.
