More than 2,600 runners came out to the Carroll Cross Country 15th annual Southlake Invitational at Bob Jones Park on Saturday, September 7. The Texas heat didn’t stop the day’s 78 teams perform with impressive finishes, nor did it stop Southlake Carroll’s cross country teams earn five first place finishes and a second place finish.
“We would like to thank everyone that volunteered their time with the Southlake Invite. It was a large meet that ran smoothly due to you all,” Carroll Cross Country head coach Justin Leonard says via press release. “Our kids ran great and really competed. We had some great performances, and we are excited to watch our runners grow in the coming weeks.”
Dragon Varsity Elite Boys placed first and were led by Nate Lannen, who placed second overall.Tim McElaney, Antonio Florcruz, Salomon Chavez and Michael McCabe also scored highly overall. Dragon Varsity Elite Girls also finished first and were led by Jenna Holland, who placed third overall. Kaylie Cox, Alexa Karmis, Tatum Foreman and Abigail McIlvain and Lydia Lo were also in the top 20 finishers.
Dragon Varsity Boys, led by Grant Anderson who placed first overall, also finished first in their division. Logan Schaunaman, Mason Alexander, Bryan Fernando and Robert Freeman also had impressive times. Dragon Varsity Girls, led by Ava Brushaw who placed second overall, also finished first. Nikoletta Shockle, Brynn Floreano, Audrey Dunn and Mia Tesoriero also racked up points for the team.
The Elite JV boys finished second and Ethan Satsky finished third overall in his division. Nathan Upadhyay, Andrew Oberhalzer, Jake Booher and JJ Pino also scored for the team.
Even after this impressive showing, the Dragons are showing no signs of slowing down.
“We will continue to work hard and focus on getting better as a team. At the end of the day, we need to maximize our individual potential through effort,” Leonard says via press release. “We are in control of our future.”
Several teams will be on the road next week at either the Javelina XC Invitational in Corpus Christi or the Coppell Invitational.
