Carroll Dragon Football maintained its undefeated record after a 62-7 win against Keller Fossil Ridge (1-6) last Thursday, their record now standing at 7-0 for the season so far. The lopsided victory vaults the Dragons up the USA Today’s national rankings at No. 20 and MaxPreps at No. 15.
Carroll High Quarterback Quinn Ewers had an impressive and albeit brief outing, throwing 14 of 18 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns before taking a backseat as many players did in the second half. The Dragon offensive line continues to dominate and now has five different running backs who have each logged over 100 yards on the season.

The leading rusher for the Carroll Dragons right now is freshman Owen Allen, who has 350 yards and 7 touchdowns after just three games. With the backfield facing the injury bug, Allen was called up to the varsity team for week five’s game against the Keller Indians.
Thursday’s game saw Allen rush for 101 yards with three touchdowns while his backfield mate Cade Wood rushed for 103 yards with one touchdown. DFW Elite Realty Player of the Game, sponsored by Thomas & Sharon Michael, was tight end Blake Smith who scored two touchdowns on the night. Smith has a nose for the endzone having caught six of his 17 receptions for touchdowns.
The defense was also very strong against Keller Fossil Ridge, holding them to only 204 yards of total production. Defensive back Brandow Howell led the defense with seven sacks while fellow defensive back James Miscoll recorded five tackles and his team-leading third interception.
Looking ahead to this week, the Carroll Dragons are scheduled to play a solid team in the Keller Central Chargers (6-1) at home on Friday for their homecoming game, with the team hoping to keep the undefeated streak alive. Last year the Dragons dominated the Chargers in a 49-14 victory.
The Chargers lost about half its starters on both sides of the ball. However, coach Bart Helsey has had good success plugging in new players who have meshed well with the veterans to the tune of a 6-1 record thus far.
Central missed the postseason last year, losing several close games. Senior quarterback Gavyn White (1,071 yards, 7 TDs) has the team back on track having already surpassed his passing yardage from a year ago.
Yet his five interceptions have the Dragon secondary’s full attention, as will senior receiver Davon Graham II, who has been the main target in the passing game with a team-high 364 receiving yards on 41 receptions. Be on the lookout for junior receiver Landon Walker who has caught three TDs on just 17 receptions.

Central has appeared to have found its running game in the continued development of sophomore Andrew Paul. Paul led the way as a freshman last year and is again the featured back with 810 yards rushing and nine TDs.
Senior linebacker Miles Skinner and Kyle McIver are tackling machines, racking up 153 tackles between them so far. Senior defensive back Stephen Gaut has also impressed with 80 tackles in 2019.
