The Southlake Carroll Dragons dominated on Pink Out Night, defeating the Keller Central Chargers 63-7 and climbing the ranks to No. 12 in the country, according to MaxPreps.com.
Like the week before, it was the Dragons’ ground game that shined the most. With senior running back Owen Allen and sophomore running back James Lehman out with injuries, other players stepped up in his absence.
Sophomore running back Maddux Reid ran for 118 yards and three touchdowns, while the other three rushing touchdowns were made by junior quarterback Kaden Anderson, junior running back Connor Hill and senior running back Jacob Marsh.
All-in-all, the Dragons’ had seven players who rushed for a combined 271 yards and six touchdowns. Helping them rack up the scores was Kaden, who along with rushing in a score, threw three touchdown passes.
Two of those touchdown passes were caught by senior wide receiver Landon Samson, who overall caught nine passes for 127 on the night. Fellow senior wide receiver RJ Maryland caught the third one among his five passes for 56 yards.
The Dragons’ defense also had a big night, giving up only 32 yards passing. Senior linebacker Allan Kleiman — our Dragon Player Of The Week, presented by AC Pros — made two interceptions on top of his four tackles, while senior defensive lineman Baker Barrett, senior linebacker Benecio Porras and senior defensive lineman Jake Coberly all knocked down a pass. Senior defensive back Zach Phillips also caused a fumble.
Since this week is a bye week for the Dragons, the next game on the schedule is against Eaton at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21 at NISD Stadium. Last season, Southlake Carroll defeated Eaton 45-30 to clinch the district title.
