Following a 49-14 win over the Haltom Buffalos, Southlake Carroll is now headed to the second round of playoffs. A great showing by both the offense and defense, the Dragons are now set to play the Odessa-Permian Panthers on December 18.
With junior Quinn Ewers still out, quarterback Hunter Holden continues to step up. While he did throw two interceptions, the senior threw for 223 and three touchdowns and rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown. Tight end RJ Maryland was a favorite target for Holden during the game — the junior caught for 123 yards and a touchdown.
And sophomore Owen Allen just keeps getting better and better. The running back rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns on the night.
The defense had a great showing, only allowing Haltom 246 yards of offense while making two sacks, catching an interception and causing a fumble they went on to recover. Junior linebacker Benecio Porras, our Dragon Pride Player of the Week, sponsored by Thomas & Sharon Michael | DFW Elite Realty, shined, leading the team with 15 tackles on the night. Fellow junior linebacker Baker Barrett recorded the second-most tackles on the night with eight.
Leading by 35 points going into the fourth quarter, sophomore Kaden Anderson came in as quarterback, but he soon sustained a season-ending knee injury. With Anderson will be out for the rest of the season, Holden is now the quarterback for the foreseeable future.
After this win, the Dragons now set their sights to their second playoff game. Southlake Carroll will now face Odessa-Permian at Wildcat Stadium in Abilene with kickoff set for 4 p.m.
The Odessa-Permian Panthers are currently 8-2 on the season with a 5-1 district record, according to MaxPreps.com. The winner of this game will go on to play the winner of the Lewisville vs. Arlington-Martin game.
General admission tickets will go on sale online on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and will be available for purchase through December 18 at 9 a.m.
