“Mum” was the word on Friday night. Not just with what adorned homecoming revelers at Dragon Stadium, but the fact that the Dragons completely shut down Keller Timber Creek 51-0 to set off the weekend’s festivities with style.
The Dragons showed off the depth of their roster and dominated in all facets of an impressive team win. The defense stood tall once again, gaining even more experience behind senior leaders and captains Logan Anderson and Cade Parks. Together, the Dragons held the Falcons to just 58 yards of total offense.
What’s even more impressive is that 18 different players recorded at least one tackle on the night. Aaron Scherp led the team with eight tackles and an interception, while Jack Petkus and Connor Hill each contributed six and five tackles respectively. But the night’s top honors go to Dragon Pride Player of the Week Dustan Mark. The junior defensive lineman tallied six tackles, a sack and forced a fumble.
Team momentum was seen on both sides of the ball as 18 different players contributed to the team’s 479 total yards gained on offense. All three Dragon quarterbacks Kaden Anderson, Graham Knowles and Parker Thompson connected with nine different receivers, combining for 21-26 for 288 yards (81%) and three touchdowns. Junior wide-outs Jacob Jordan and Trey Ferri were on the receiving end of the three scoring passes, with Jordan catching two of them.
On the ground, six Dragon running backs accounted for 191 yards and four touchdowns on a night where Owen Allen carried the ball just five times — albeit for three of the rushing touchdowns.
The Dragons (4-0, 1-0) will now hit the road to face the winless Haltom Buffalos (0-4, 0-1), who are coming off a Week Four loss at the hands of Keller Central 16-31. The game will be played at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22.
