The Southlake Carroll Dragons are now your 2020 district champions. On Homecoming Night, the team defeated Eaton 45-30 to win district, advance to a 5-1 regular season record and remain undefeated in district play.
While the defense had a shaky night, the offense continued to do what they do best. Friday night marked the return of senior wide receiver Brady Boyd, who caught three passes for 38 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Owen Allen, the Dragon Pride Player of the Week, sponsored by Thomas & Sharon Michael | DFW Elite Realty, continued to be an offensive star, rushing for 158 yards and three touchdowns. So far this season, Allen has rushed for 939 yards and 16 touchdowns.
With junior quarterback Quinn Ewers still out, Hunter Holden continues to step up for the team. The senior quarterback threw for 183 yards, a touchdown and an interception while rushing for 43 yards and a touchdown.
The defense did have some standout moments starting early in the first quarter when junior linebacker Barrett Baker caused a fumble that sophomore defensive lineman Cade Parks returned for a touchdown. The defense also kept Eaton to only 10 points going into the second half.
Baker also recorded 15 tackles — the most of any Dragon on the night — and one sack. Senior defensive back Cinque Williams followed Baker for the most tackles with 11.
While Eaton racked up 20 points in the second half, the offense responded in kind — scoring 10 points to keep the Dragons on top. All in all, the Eaton offense had 376 yards to Carroll’s 420 yards.
Up next for the Dragons is a post-Thanksgiving afternoon game against Keller Timber Creek. Originally scheduled for Nov. 25, the game will now take place Nov. 27 at 1:30 p.m. at the Keller ISD Athletic Complex.
The Falcons currently have a 5-3 regular season record and a 3-1 district record, according to MaxPreps.com. A familiar opponent for the Dragons, Southlake Carroll has outscored Timber Creek 106-21 over the past two seasons. Breaking that down, the Dragons beat the Falcons 57-13 in 2018 and 49-8 in 2019.
