Southlake Carroll walked into the newly renovated Mustang-Panther Stadium for the first time and walked out victorious. Southlake Carroll took down Colleyville Heritage 50-9 thanks to another balanced rushing and passing attack.
The offense directed by sophomore Quarterback Quinn Ewers continues to improve. They started strong with 18 points in the first quarter, and they never looked back. With a tandem of impressive junior running backs and a tough offensive line, the Dragons netted 284 yards rushing in total. Junior running back and DFW Elite Realty Player of the Game, sponsored by Thomas & Sharon Michael, Realtors, Jack Abram rushed for 143 yards alone and put up two touchdowns. Junior running back Kannon Kadi chipped in with 50 yards and another two touchdowns.
Ewers impressed in his second win of the season by passing for 308 yards and two touchdowns. By evenly spreading the ball between his top receivers, Ewers ensured the Panthers stayed on their toes throughout the game. Senior wide receivers Wills Meyer and John Manero had 15 receptions between them, and each found the endzone for a touchdown. Speedy wideout Brady Boyd had a breakout game with six receptions for a team high of 112 yards.
The Dragon Defense also came to play, giving up just 164 yards and just three first downs all night. Quinten Bunten, Dillon Springer and company held the line and allowed for only 36 yards of rushing through the game. Graham Faloona and Preston Forney led the Dragons with nine and seven tackles respectively.
The Dragons’ next game will take them to the original home of Friday Night Lights, Ratliff Stadium, to take on the Odessa Permian Panthers. The 0-2 team will be Carroll’s last non-district matchup. To show support for those affected by the recent Midland-Odessa shooting, Dragon Cheer will be sporting their “One With Odessa” T-shirts. These shirts, available for $20, will help raise funds for the Odessa Community Foundation to help victims and their families with funeral and medical expenses.
