Returning for the first time in weeks following an injury, quarterback Quinn Ewers led the Dragons to a 30-26 win over Arlington Martin in a Christmas Eve game at Globe Life Park. Coupled with Ewers’ return, the offense shined and the defense made key plays that led to the Dragons’ moving on to the fourth round of the playoffs.
In his first game back, Ewers completed 57% of his passes, throwing for 253 yards and three touchdowns on the night. Junior wide receiver Landon Samson was Ewers’ target most often, catching for 169 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior wide receiver Brady Boyd caught for 78 yards and a touchdown while sophomore running back Owen Allen rushed for 71 yards.
And senior kicker Joe McFadden — our Dragon Pride Player of the Week, sponsored by Thomas and Sharon Michael | DFW Elite Realty — made three field goals and three PATs, keeping Carroll on top in a close game.
The defense had standout moments that also contributed to the win. Sophomore defensive back Logan Anderson recorded the most tackles on the night with 12, while junior linebacker Baker Barrett made eight tackles on the night.
Key plays from the Dragon defense also included a sack from inside linebacker Tristan Stokes and an interception from senior defensive back Parker Schnieders. The defense also knocked down four passes.
Advancing to the fourth round of the playoffs, Southlake Carroll is set to face Euless Trinity on January 2 at 11 a.m. at Globe Life Park. Euless Trinity defeated Allen 49-45 to advance and are currently ranked No. 55 in the state, according to MaxPreps.com.
Ticket information for the January 2 game has yet to be released.
