Enjoying a midseason bye week after a 51-0 shutout of Keller Timber Creek, Southlake Carroll (6-0, 3-0) faced Keller (5-1, 2-1) in a battle of undefeated teams at Dragon Stadium. The Dragons came back from a 24-28 halftime deficit to win a hard-fought battle 38-35 to remain undefeated.
Heading into the game, the Dragon’s defense had only given up 27 points all season. The Indians utilized a balanced attack of their own, scoring 35 points behind 300-plus yards passing and 160-plus yards of rushing on the night.
Aaron Scherp and Dustan Mark led the defense with 10 tackles each as the team faced their toughest competition of the season in the No. 19-ranked Indians. The defense was tested and came up big thanks to a late fourth-quarter interception by Logan Lewandowski, his second of the season, that helped seal the victory.
On offense, the Dragons leaned heavily on Dragon Pride Player of the Week Owen Allen, who carried the ball 35 times after having previously carrying it just 59 times heading into the contest. The Dragons’ career rushing leader added 230 yards and three touchdowns to his ledger. Quarterback Kaden Anderson also took to running with eight carries of his own for 52 yards and a score. Kaden threw the ball just seven times on the night but did connect with James Lehman for a 27-yard score.
A Tyler White 37-yard field goal was the difference in the game as the Dragons continue their district schedule.
The Dragons will now turn their attention to the Keller Central Chargers (1-5, 1-2), who are coming off a 45-17 loss to V.R Eaton. The game will be played on the road at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13.
