The Dragons are one step closer to the state championship game. On Saturday, Dec. 4, Southlake Carroll defeated Allen 47-21, advancing to the state semifinal and putting them just one win away from going to state.
The Dragons’ ground game was the star of the evening. Owen Allen rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns, surpassing 2,000 yards rushed this season with 2,114 total. Quarterback Kaden Anderson and running back James Lehman also rushed in their own touchdowns, accounting for 30 of the Dragons’ 47 points.
All this offensive success is in no small part due to the Dragon offensive line, who is our Dragon Pride Players Of The Week, presented by AC Pros. Players on the offensive line like Joey Baker, Jake Hall, Andrew Cunningham, Walker Anderson and Jackson Brown are integral in creating the openings needed for all the big offensive plays the Dragons pull off.
The Dragons also did well defensively. Senior Avyonne Jones shined with an impressive pick-six while also recording six tackles. Senior Max Reyes caused a fumble that junior Logan Anderson recovered, and Benecio Porras continued to lead the team by recording the most tackles of the night with eight. Porras now has 89 total tackles this season.
Now headed to the state semifinals, Southlake Carroll gets ready to play Duncanville at 4 p.m on Saturday, Dec. 11 at McKinney ISD Stadium. The Dragons previously defeated the team 34-27 and advanced to the state championship game last year.
