Southlake Carroll Cross-Country
Southlake Carroll’s cross-country teams are now district champs. Both the boys and girls teams earned perfect scores during the District 4-6A Championship meet on Oct. 16, according to a press release.
“I’m very proud of our young men and women,” head coach Justin Leonard says via press release. “There were some strong teams out there today, and finishing one through five in all four races is a testament to how hard our runners have worked all season long. We’re looking forward to carrying this momentum into regionals.”
This is the 12th consecutive district title for the boys team and the third in a row for the girls team. On the boys' side, junior David Fisher led the team with a time of 15:09, winning the individual district title. He was followed by junior Hunter Hill in second, sophomore Jude Alvarez in third, junior Robert Freeman in fourth, junior Logan Cantu in fifth, junior Tyler Ortiz in seventh and senior Welles McDevitt in 10th.
Meanwhile for the girls team, senior Kaylie Cox won her second consecutive individual district title, leading the girls with a time of 17:48. She was followed by junior Ava Bushaw in second, sophomore Sylvia Schwedler in third, junior Natalie Ng in fourth, freshman Elizabeth Smits in fifth, sophomore Alexandra Walsh in ninth and junior Audrey Dunn in 26th.
Both the boys and girls junior varsity teams also won the district championship, with the boys coming in first through 10th and the girls coming in first through 14th, according to a press release.
Regionals are next for Southlake Carroll cross-country, with the Region 1-6A meet taking place in Lubbock on Oct. 25. The boys are vying for their fourth consecutive regional championship, while the girls will aim for first after finishing in second last year.
