In a game that was postponed a day due to inclement weather, the Southlake Carroll Dragons took on Keller and came out on top, winning 49-13 and advancing to 6-0 on the season.
While junior quarterback Kaden Anderson only completed 36% of his passes, many of them were big plays. Senior wide receiver RJ Maryland was on the receiving end of three touchdown passes while fellow senior wide receiver Landon Samson shrugged off a defender to catch a 74-yard touchdown pass.
The Dragons also did well when it came to the ground game. Junior running back Owen Allen rushed for 65 yards and one touchdown and after leaving the game with an injury, sophomore running back James Lehman stepped up and rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns before he also left field with an injury.
On the defensive side of things, junior defensive back Logan Anderson — our Dragon Pride Player Of The Week, presented by AC Pros — caught two of the Dragons’ three interceptions while simultaneously knocking down two passes and making three tackles.
Sophomore linebacker Aaron Scherp caught an interception while also knocking down a pass and making two tackles. And it was captain and senior linebacker Benecio Porras who led the team in tackles with seven on the night.
After defeating Keller, Southlake Carroll gets ready to take on another Keller team: the Keller Central Chargers. The Dragons will play the Chargers during Pink Out Night at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8 at Dragon Stadium.
