Southlake’s 1988 Dragon Football team is back in the spotlight. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football and UIL are partnering to celebrate 100 years of UIL Texas high school football, honoring Friday Night Lights legends throughout history.
Every week throughout the UIL football season, Dave Campbell has been showcasing 10 honorees, and week 8 includes Southlake’s 1988 Dragon roster. Dave Campbell’s website points out how this was Carroll’s origin of football success, with head coach Bob Ledbetter hitting a 16-0 season and winning the Dragons' first ever state title.
“Carroll was a juggernaut in the 3A playoffs with an average margin of victory of 34.5 points, their closest playoff game was a 23-0 state semifinal win over Decatur,” according to the website.
Southlake's 2005 team was also featured on this week's list. Fans can now go in and vote for their favorite teams for a chance to say who is the best throughout UIL history. The final results, UIL’s 100 Teams and the Fan’s Choice Top 10, will be announced at the UIL Texas high school football state championship games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington this December.
