The coach who led Southlake Carroll to five 5A state finals and four championships between 2002 and 2006 is officially the new head football coach and athletic director at Austin Westlake.
Todd Dodge currently heads the Marble Falls High School football program and is bringing nearly 30 years of coaching experience to Austin Westlake, according to Eanes Independent School District.
“Coach Dodge brings a wealth of achievements to a well-established and historically successful program,” Eanes Superintendent Dr. Nola Wellman says. “As a coach and leader, he exemplifies the character and values that are consistent with those of Westlake High School. His ability to instill those characteristics in the young men he coaches is admirable.”
During his time at Carroll, the school compiled a 98-11 overall record with Dodge at helm, and he was also named National Coach of the Year twice.
Additionally, Dodge was 79-1 in his final five seasons, with only one loss in the 2003 5A title game.
The former Dragon head coach was Southlake's reigning citizen of the year and creator of the “Dodge Ball” phenomenon that brought national recognition to the city in 2006.
Interestingly enough, Dodge will enter Dragon Stadium once again during Carroll's season opener this year against Austin Westlake on Aug. 29.
The last time Southlake played Austin Westlake with Dodge as head coach in 2006, his son, Riley, threw three touchdown passes, leading Southlake to a 43-29 victory.
Todd is keeping it in the family, given the fact that Riley was the assistant coach of Austin Westlake.
Prior to Marble Falls, Dodge held coaching stints at the University of Pittsburgh and University of North Texas.
Dodge is replacing Darren Allman, who accepted the position of head football coach at Grapevine-Colleyville's Heritage High School last week.
