Even as the last of Icemageddon 2013 melts away, the stormbrthat brought some of coldest days in the past decade made a lasting impression.br
More than ever before, this ArcticbrFreeze had a major impact on the Carroll Independent School District'sbrcalendar, wiping out three days of school and sporting events.
The Dragons' swimming and divingbrmeet was cancelled on Dec. 5 at The Colony during the district's first badbrweather day.
However, Carroll is set to returnbrto the pool this weekend in the Mansfield Invite, which is the final meet of thebryear. The squad will dive into the New Year with its first meet on Jan. 11 inbrKaty, TX at the Lone Star Duel in the Pool. br
Lady Dragon basketball was able tobrshoot around during the ice storm but had to leave the Metroplex to do it.brCarroll traveled to LaPorte for the Peggy Whitley Classic and went 3-1,brclaiming fifth place. The Lady Dragons begin district play with a 10-3 record andbrwill take on Keller Timber Creek on Dec. 13 at Timber Creek High School.
Following suit, Dragon basketballbrdominated Hurst LD Bell 59-47 during Icemageddon 2013. Carroll has a smallbrreprieve before district play begins on Dec. 17 against Richland.
Dragon wrestling was unable to pinbra spot in during the winter freeze, cancelling its tri-meet versus Fossil Ridgebrand Northwest. The team will return to the mat Dec. 12 in a tri-meet againstbrHaltom and Keller Central at Haltom High School. Additionally, varsity is setbrto trek to Weatherford for the Outback Invitation on Dec. 14.
The reigning champion Dragon andbrLady Dragon soccer teams returned to the practice field as the first pre-seasonbrrankings went out. The boys are ranked No. 9 in the Elite Soccer Report Fab 50,brwhile the Lady Dragons are ranked No. 14 on the same list.
Both squads will return to actionbras the final sporting event of the year kicks off Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. againstbrDiamond Hill Jarvis at Dragon Stadium. The Lady Dragons will begin their NewbrYear campaign with a tri-match on Jan. 3 at 10 a.m. versus Grapevine and thenbrat noon against Coppell at Dragon Stadium.
