The Southlake Carroll boys cross-country team took the top spot at the Marcus Coach T Invitational over the weekend.
Racing Saturday morning in Denton, senior Logan Cantu was the Dragons’ top runner, finishing the 5K in second place overall with a time of 15:16. Following behind him was sophomore Blake Bullard in seventh place, freshman Caden Leonard in 18th, junior Zach Troutman in 24th and sophomore Alex Severson in 30th. Their combined efforts led to the boys taking the gold medal at the invitational.
But they weren’t the only ones that excelled on the field. Junior Alexandra Walsh once again took the top spot, finishing in 17:35 with a fifth-place finish. Following her was senior Ava Bushaw in seventh place, sophomore Elizabeth Smits in 21st, junior Sylvia Schwedler in 22nd and senior Audrey Dunn in 25th. While Flower Mound took the top spot overall, the girls went out strong with a second-place finish.
“Our young men and women had great races today,” head coach Justin Leonard says via media release. “This is always one of the most competitive meets of the season, and both of our elite varsity teams had two Top 10 runners. I’m very proud of how we competed.”
The Dragons return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17. The varsity teams will travel to Norco, California, to compete in the Woodbridge XC Classic, while the junior varsity teams will run in the Paschal Invitational in Fort Worth.
