The Carroll Swim and Dive girls team keep winning, even while they’re off during the summer. On Tuesday, July 14, the girls were named dual meet national champions by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.
The NISCA Dual Meet competition gathers finishing times recorded during the swim and dive season and assigns points based on those times. With 6,286 points, the Carroll girls team came in first out of 44 schools, while the Carroll boys team came in sixth out of 48 schools with 5,787 points.
“The NISCA Dual Meet competition rewards a team for depth in addition to quality,” head coach Kevin Murphy says. “High finishes by our Southlake Carroll Swim and Dive teams are a reflection of the overall strength of our high school program from top to bottom.”
This isn’t the first time the girls saw recognition from NISCA. The girls were previously crowned champions in 2012, while the boys were crowned three times, finishing second overall in 2017.
"Our success is based on the team rather than just a few outstanding swimmers and divers,” coach Murphy says. “The great athletes are significant of course, but the team is where our strength really shines. Everyone on our team strives to improve, and that defines the success of our team.”
