Over the weekend, the topbrrunners of the Southlake Carroll Cross Country teams competed at the 37thbrAnnual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic in Norco, California. Dragons dominatedbrin the fast, three-mile race held under the lights at night. Despite facingbrtough competition from around the country, both the boys and girls teams came awaybrwith some outstanding performances, including a first-place finish in the girls'brvarsity race.
“Our teams ran some great races against some of the toughestbrcompetition in the nation,” said head coach Justin Leonard via press release. “Allbrof our teams stepped up and represented our program well in California. It wasbra great weekend and hopefully this will help propel our runners into the restbrof the season."
The Elite Varsity Dragon girlsbrtook an impressive fourth place in California and were led by senior CatebrTracht who captured 21st place with a time of 16:43.3. Next in line for the Dragons was SofiabrSantamaria with a 41st place finish (17:13.2), Sarah McCabe came in nextbrin 56th place (17:30.9), Lauren Esparza was 72nd (17:53.2)brand Cristina Canal rounded out the scoring positions with a 75rdbrplace (17:54.3) finish. Angie Riera (18.08.9) and Kate Reppeto (18:35.7) completedbrthe elite 7 runners for the Dragon girls' team.
The Elite Varsity Dragonbrboys faced tough competition and came away with a fifth-place finish led bybrsenior Enzo Mortimer in 37th place (14:47.8). Right behind him in 38th place wasbrJack Meyers (14:48.0). Next to cross thebrline for the Dragons was Jackson Felkins in 42nd place (14:49.9), DrewbrBliss in 67th place (14:59.1) and rounding out the boys scoringbrpositions was Vishnu Nair in 82nd (15:08.0). Completing the boy's elite team were JuanbrArcila in 93rd (15:16.9) and Connor Rutledge in 112thbr(15:23.9).
The Varsity Dragon girls tookbrfirst place and were led by Sophomore Jenna Holland coming in 10th (17:30),brLydia Lo finished right behind in 14th (17:32), Payton Wichman in 34thbr(18:10), Rima Toure in 43rd (18:20) and Tatum Foreman in 48thbr(18:23). Completing the girls' team was VybrNguyen in 63rd (18:35) and Shreya Veeravelli in 65thbr(18:37).
The Dragon Varsity boys camebraway with a ninth-place finish and were led by Nate Lannen in 32ndbr(15:12), followed by Everrett Kolto in 56th (15:28), Lucas Levant inbr62nd (15:31), Noah Castro in 63rd (15:32) and NickbrArriaza in 77th (15:38). brRounding out the boy's team was Antonio Florcruz in 86th (15:42)brand Henry Gardner in 141st (16:16).
The elite and varsitybrDragons will use this next week off to train hard and prepare for the ChilebrPepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on September 30. The JV teams willbrsplit up next week and compete in Corpus Christi at the Islander Splash and in Grapevinebrat the Coppell Invitational.
