Carroll Dragon Cross Country has a long history at the State Championships. Last weekend, they continued in a tradition of excellence, with top five finishes for both teams.
The boys team earned a second place finish and the girls earned a fourth place finish at the Class 6A State Championship in Round Rock. While running a challenging course through Old Settler's Park, the girls only missed the podium by nine points, while the boys walked away with second place behind the Woodlands.
“We are so proud of the way our kids competed at the State meet,” head cross country coach Justin Leonard say via press release. “We went into the meet with the goal of winning but came up a little short. I would like to thank this group of seniors for all of their dedication over the last four years. Now we will regroup and get a little redemption at Nike Regionals.”
Both teams posted remarkable times. The entire varsity boys team met Elite Performance Standards with times of 16:30 or less. All seven girls on varsity met the same standard with times of 19:45 or less.
