The Southlake Carroll Cross Country team's training paid off with resounding wins at the Southlake Eight Mile Relay on Saturday, August 25 at Oakgrove Park in Grapevine. Showing great depth in all categories, the Southlake Carroll Cross Country Team took all four first place finishes.
“It is a great start to the season, but we need to keep our focus and continue to work hard, “ said Coach Justin Leonard, head coach of the Southlake Carroll Cross Country team.
The Boys Southlake Carroll Varsity Team, 1st in the 5A state meet last year and ranked 2nd in the nation, the 1st place team with Joe Sansone, Connor Hendrickson, Matt Odneal and Chase Wichman (40:38), 2nd place with Nate Sullivan, Jacob Pickle, Alec Garner and Trevor Gilley (40:52), 3rd place with Regen Hatcher, Luke Lanham, Eli Canal and Johnny Kemps (43:10). In fourth place was Northwest (43:46) and fifth place, Keller (43:48).
The Southlake Carroll Girls, 1st in the 5A state meet last year and 7th at Nationals, took 1st and 2nd. The team of Courtney Kreigshauser, Shelby Chapin, Elena Arriaza and Maddie Keen had a commanding lead and time of 48:39. In second place was the Southlake Carroll team of Taylor Ulmann, Morgan Baulier, Sarah Cory and Katie Burnham with a time of 50.12. Northwest High School finished third with a time of 50:35 and Southlake Carroll also ran away with 4th and 5th place.
The Southlake JV Boys took first and third in a 4-Mile Relay. The first place team of Jake Oldroyd and Timuo Toure had a time of 23:46, second place Timbercreek (24:15) and third place team, Paul Baker and Danny Vegel of Southlake (24:19). Southlake Carroll followed with 4th and Byron Nelson 5th in the JV Boys.
Southlake JV Girls team of Tig Archer and Chantal Van der Westhuizen finished first (26:51), second place Fossil Ridge (27:46), and third place, Southlake JV team of Christine Knowlton and Holly Morgan with a time of 28:30. Northwest JV Girls finished 4th and 5th.
This race kicks-off the running season for Cross Country teams in Texas.
