Southlake Cross-Country raced against 21 of the best teams in the nation at the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland last weekend – and the boys finished in the Top 3.
The national meet saw over 400 runners race across 3 miles of terrain in Glendoveer Golf Course, and Southlake Carroll put up a strong effort in the face of some intense competition. According to the meet results, sophomore Caden Leonard finished 21st out of 201 male runners with a time of 15:36.7. Senior Jude Alvarez followed from behind in 48th, junior Griffin Cords finished 69th and senior Zach Troutman finished 80th. Junior Blake Bullard finished 93rd while senior Ryan Van De Berghe finished 112th, and junior Alex Severson rounded out the boys in 181st place.
On the girls side, junior Elizabeth Smits finished 77th with a time of 19:00.6, while senior Alex Walsh shadowed her in 79th place. Senior Sylvia Schwedler finished 148th, sophomore Vanessa Vezga finished 156th and junior Sarayu Veluri finished 158th. Seniors Charlotte Martin and Julia Gassett rounded out the girls team in 178th and 184th place.
By the end of the contest, not only did the girls team finish 18th out of 22 teams – the boys also finished third with an overall score of 138. Congratulations to the Southlake Carroll Cross-Country team!
