The 20th annual Big Tex Choice Awards winners are ready to make their official state fair debuts next weekend.
Winning Best Taste in the savory category is Justin Martinez’ Dominican Fritura Dog, which pairs fritura cheese and Dominican salami with garlic plantain chips before being deep-fried in corn dog batter. Meanwhile, Isaac Rousso’s 12-inch Cotton Candy Bacon On A Stick won Best Taste on the sweet side. For most creative overall, Heather Perkins won for her Texas Sugar Rush Pickles, which are layered with cotton candy and strawberry syrup and then topped with sweet breakfast cereal favorites like Lucky Charms, Fruit Loops and Cap’n Crunch.
While you can catch all of these over-the-top flavors at the State Fair of Texas later this month, they’re far from the only indulgent offerings, with other fair foods including the Texas Fried Burnt End Bombs, The Hot Chick-In Pancake Poppers and the Strawberry Pop-Tarts Beignetffle.
