An Elevated Wine Flight
Wine flights are all about trying new things. So when Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille announced they were offering a special “Elevation Matters” wine tasting, we had to give it a swirl.
The fascinating concept is right in the name: elevation. Perry’s sommelier selected three varietals with grapes from vineyards at different elevations to show how the environment affects the taste.
“We want to show our guests how different elevations affect the characteristics of wine,” Susi Zivanovic, Corporate Sommelier and Beverage Director, says via press release. “When choosing these wines from elevated vineyards, we focused on highlighting the concentrated flavors that present themselves only when grapes are grown at certain elevations.
The first glass, a 2014 Arrowood Cabernet ($24/glass, $95/bottle), is from a vineyard at 750 feet. The second, 2015 Stonestreet Cabernet ($24/glass, $95/bottle) is from a vineyard at 1,300 feet. And the third, a 2015 Mt. Brave Cabernet ($38/glass, $150/bottle), is from a vineyard at 1,800 feet.
Because it may be hard to put those measurements into context, Perry’s has provided a reference point for each elevation. The Arrowood Cabernet is as high as the Transamerican Pyramid, the Stonestreet is as high as the Empire State Building and the Mt. Brave Cabernet is as high as the Sears Tower.
“Winemaking is a process of understanding and balancing the characteristics of each grape to best complement one another and when incorporating elevations, beautiful and intense flavors can be found,” Zivanovic says via press release.
Experience the nuisances between these pours by stopping into Perry’s. The tasting is available now until February 13 for $28.
