Wine lovers associate a few things with prosecco: celebrations, excitement and lots of bubbles. But now, Texans can add another trait to the list: skinny!
Thomson & Scott, a UK wine brand boasting organic, vegan and cleaner selections, is rolling out their Skinny Prosecco to Central Market locations spread throughout the state. Amanda Thomson, the CEO and founder of the brand, has come to Texas for the first time to hold tastings at different grocery locations to introduce people to the product and educate locals about the importance of knowing what’s in their wine.
Raised on a vegetarian, no sugar diet, Thomson was disappointed to find out what hidden additives were lurking in her favorite drinks. And it was often preservatives or fillers that leave wine lovers feeling sick the next day.
"I want to drink beautiful wine," Thomson explains. "I want to party, but I want to wake up and feel good."
So she left her career as a broadcaster at the BBC, got her diploma in wine at Paris' Le Cordon Bleu and started leading the force of transparency in the wine industry. While some may see this as career leap, Thomson notes that both journalism and the wine industry come down to one thing.
"They're both all about storytelling," Thomson says. "It's about taking that moment and learning the story about what you're drinking."
She now has built a tightly edited collection of sparkling wines – including Champagne, prosecco and rosé – for those who want to enjoy the beverage without taking in the extra sugar and calories.
To get a taste of the Skinny Prosecco, head over to Southlake's Central Market Friday, September 21, from 12 to 3 p.m. Thomson will be onsite hosting tastings and educating locals about the importance of knowing what they are drinking. Come out to get a taste or snag a bottle to give the UK brand a try.
