Creating pie is an art at JudyPie, not a task. Since 2016, Judy Balunda has served her community hearty slices and whole pies in more than 16 flavors. Growing up, pies were a regular family tradition, and Judy still believes baking pies bring people together. This all comes to fruition during her infamous Bingo nights. On select Mondays starting at 6:30 p.m., the family-favorite shop offers customers a choice of either chicken pot pie or shepherd’s pie, salad, rolls and a slice of sweet dessert with their bingo card.
A retired special education teacher, Judy continues to share her gifts with the community. Instead of teaching, she bakes her mom's treasured family recipes from Punky Pumpkin and Apple Crumb to her favorite — Rhoda's Pecan Pie. But if you ask her customers, they prefer her Key Lime pies the most.
“This is my busiest time of the year,” Judy exclaims. “I love seeing my shop filled with mountains of boxes.”
Patrons feeling extra grateful this year can “Pie It Forward” at JudyPie. Inspired by generosity, this option allows people to prepay for a pie for others to enjoy. Whether it's to thank a first responder, help someone in need or for someone who simply forgot their wallet, it’s just another way pie can make your heart sing.
