On March 9, Southlake’s Feedstore BBQ was recognized as a Purple Heart Restaurant by the Military Order of the Purple Heart, DFW Mid-Cities Chapter 1513. Many of the chapter’s members made their way to the restaurant to honor the deep-rooted connection the Lafavers family holds in the community and with the U.S. Armed Forces.
Owned by a Marine, Feedstore BBQ is not only a place for exceptional local barbecue — it also serves as a monthly gathering spot for the members of Chapter 1513, where they relish in camaraderie and shared stories of sacrifice and service.
The Purple Heart dates back to its inception on August 7, 1782, when it was first bestowed in the name of the president of the United States. To this day, the medal is given in honor of those who have been wounded or paid the ultimate sacrifice during their military service. With origins tracing back to the Badge of Military Merit — a heart made of purple cloth — the Purple Heart is the oldest military award still presented to U.S. military members today.
National Purple Heart Day is celebrated annually on August 7th and will now serve as one more great reason to visit Southlake’s most notable barbecue spot.
