A fluffy baked dish made with egg yolks and beaten egg whites, the soufflé can be eaten as a savory dish with ham and Gruyere, creamed spinach, goat cheese, smoked salmon, blue cheese and mushrooms, or as a sweet dessert loaded with chocolate, cordials, raspberries and other sweet treats.
If you love soufflés, you’ll be excited to learn Texas is home to a growing concept that not only dishes out some of the best soufflés around but also elevates it to an art form. We’re referring to rise n°1, which was born out of the creative vision of Hedda Gioia Dowd, an epicure, Francophile and owner of Antique Harvest.
Dowd's love for all things French — especially its cuisine — was instilled by her mother and grandmother. They made soufflés that captivated her as a child, and she always had a deep admiration for the techniques that transformed something as simple as an egg into a sensational dish.
This appreciation turned into a successful business idea that has received rave reviews from Conde Nast, The Atlantic and NBC News and now boasts four locations with more to come, including one in Southlake later in 2024.
"We've been looking in Southlake for quite a while," says Risen Restaurant Group CEO Chris Florczak. "A lot of our guests travel from the Southlake area, so we're very excited to soon be a part of the neighborhood."
Rise n°1 first opened its doors on Jan. 15, 2008, and after seven years, they expanded their operation to Houston. The Fort Worth location followed in 2017, along with The Woodlands in 2023. Now there are plans to develop a location at 2001 W. Southlake Blvd., Suite 155 in the Southlake marketplace, already home to eateries like Delucca and MooYah.
"The [Southlake location] will have more of a green space ratio," Florczak says. "The new space is an interior end-cap that will have beautiful green landscaping and a common area that will help transport guests to a feeling of the French countryside."
The Southlake location will have all the traditional menu options that have made rise a household name. In addition to soufflés, rise will also serve a Chariot de Fromage, which features some of the finest artisanal cheeses from around the world, vin et champagne flights and a classic French selection ranging from salad niçoise and steamed artichokes with sauce Andree, brie and cornichon sandwiches.
Rise n°1 is an ode to French cuisine, culture, and craftsmanship. It's a place where foodies can indulge in one of the world's most iconic dishes, the soufflé, and soon, do so without leaving Southlake.
