Small Bites
As Texas heats up for the summer, nothing keeps your mouth cool quite like the icy, refreshing taste of a sno cone. From the sweet sensations to the flaky textures, sno cones are a family summertime tradition Tin Roof Treats is proud to continue locally.
Family-owned and operated, the sno cone stand behind Yates Corner Grocery formerly operated as Tropical Sno for 20 years before it was rebranded to Tin Roof Treats last year. Undergoing a makeover with a fresh paint job, surfboard signage and yard games including cornhole and Connect 4, owner Rachel Brauer says they opened the shop to share a quintessential family-friendly experience in Southlake.
“We just wanted to be a part of something we enjoyed as a family for years and keep it alive for families around the area,” Rachel says.
As an independent Tropical Sno dealer, this sweetshop doesn’t just stick to classics like cherry and blue raspberry — they combine flavored syrups and other ingredients to yield more inventive options such as root beer float mixed with ice cream and wedding cake made with vanilla cream and coconut syrup. Children will flock to the colors of the rainbow with banana, cherry and blue Hawaiian flavors, and it’s always a Barbie world when you pour cotton candy, coconut and vanilla cream into one cup.
At this updated family favorite, the syrup is only one half of the recipe — the other half lies in the ice, which is hand-shaved and served in spill-stopper cups that can be conveniently taken anywhere. With an emphasis on exceptional customer service and icy scoops that melt to the touch, it’s no wonder this small stand can sell over 200-300 sno cones during a summer day.
“Our focus on quality is No. 1, but our focus on the community is No. 2,” Rachel says. “We know we have a superior product, and we’re happy to share it with everyone.”
