Nestled in a cozy corner of Southlake Town Square, Truluck’s has been a local staple since 2008. With its well-crafted, seafood-centric menu, intimate booths and selfie-perfect lighting, it’s the go-to for those wanting to infuse sophistication into special occasions, business dinners or a simple weeknight out on the town.

It is well established that this local gem shines when it comes to pairing show-stopping seafood and steaks with the wine that will take them to the next level. This is precisely why they were yet again recognized with a coveted 2024 “Wine Spectator” Restaurant Award.

Suffice it to say that we trust Truluck’s partner and beverage director Dave Mattern when it comes to choosing the perfect wine, and he was kind enough to share his current pairing picks with us.

If you’re tempted by the new Seared Scallop & Shrimp Sauté menu addition, he explains that sauvignon blanc is ideal. “We carry an iconic one from Merry Edwards, whose brightness and herbaceousness add a whole other gear to these dishes,” according to the oenophile. He adds that if reds are more your style, “Our Sesame Seared Tuna can hold up to big reds. But if you want the best pairing, the cool-weather, fresh, electric Hartford Court Pinot Noir will take you there.”

For fan favorites like lobster and stone crab, Dave recommends a crisp chardonnay. He’s currently enchanted with Atelier from Russian River, which drinks like a gorgeous white Burgundy for half the price.

And for those feeling a little more adventurous, Truluck’s launched two varieties of private-label caviar this month, giving you the perfect excuse to stray from the wine menu. To “make the caviar sing,” opt for an ice-cold glass of Beluga Gold Vodka.

“I’m a big believer that the right wine with the right food can take food from good to great, and the wine itself from average to spectacular,” Dave remarked.

Whatever your choice, the key is to remember that if you like it, drink it. Especially with a wine menu as carefully curated as Truluck’s.
