Apex Arts League is proud to present the children's classic musical tale, Peter and the Wolf, by Sergei Prokofiev, on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 12:00 noon at the Gazebo in Southlake Town Square. The concert will be performed by students of the SMU Meadows School of the Arts and will take place during this year’s Art in the Square. After the performance, there will be an Instrumental Petting Zoo for children in the audience to enjoy.
Peter and the Wolf is a narrated musical story of a hungry wolf who tries to catch animals and eat them and Peter, the hero, who tries to save his animal friends by capturing the wolf. Each character in the story has a musical theme played by a different instrument in the orchestra.
Prokofiev wrote the story, narration and music for Peter in 1936 for a children's theatre in Moscow. He composed the music as a child's introduction to the orchestra, with Peter represented by the strings, the bird by the flute, the duck by the oboe, the cat by the clarinet, and the wolf by the French horns. Peter and the Wolf has delighted young audiences for more than 75 years and remains a classic in children's musical literature.
Bring the children to hear the adventures of Peter, learn about the orchestra, and enjoy the sights, sounds and touch of the Instrumental Petting Zoo! Enjoy this preview performance for Apex Arts League's upcoming children's musical series and learn more about future events.
