The St. Jude Classicbr(SJC), an annual three-on-three charity soccer tournament at Carroll MiddlebrSchool (CMS), keeps getting bigger and better. This year's event on April 16 raisedbrmore than $1,500 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a leadingbrchildren's hospital pioneering research and treatments for kids with cancer andbrother life-threatening diseases. This is the largest amount the sixth-annualbrtournament has ever raised for the nonprofit.
Approximately 65 studentsbrand faculty members at CMS hit the fields for some fun competition for a goodbrcause. The event included not only 22 soccer games and a championship match, brbut also food and refreshments from SJC's sponsors, Southlake Chick-fil-A and Rita's Ice.
“The money we raised willbrno doubt help children at St. Jude, but hopefully it will impact our studentsbrin a positive way so that they will continue to give and serve in the future,” saysbrZach Sellers, CMS coach, outdoor education teacher and founder of SJC. “I wantbrto thank everyone who participated for helping make this year's SJC the bestbrever.”
Nikia Loveless, marketingbrdirector for Chick-fil-A in Southlake, was happy to sponsor SJC; the cause isbrclose to her heart. “My son Kaleb is a 10-year cancer survivor of Neuroblastoma.brThankfully he didn't need treatment from St. Jude, but there are so manybrchildren who do and they depend on generous donations,” she says. “Great job inbrraising money for such a wonderful cause.”
