Gateway Church
A Broadway favorite is coming to Southlake thanks to Gateway Church. Their latest summer musical showcase will feature “Annie” and will run from August 1 to August 11.
Musical lovers and families across the area are invited to come out to The King’s University to enjoy the tale, which follows the namesake character as she ventures through life in New York City in the 1930s.
When selecting their next show, Gateway Church’s performing arts coordinator Emily Thomas says they were hoping to find a show that stood the test of time and could be enjoyed by people of all ages – and “Annie” fit the bill.
“For decades, audiences have gravitated to the story of Annie, the gutsy orphan who approaches life with a resolute steadfastness and optimism no matter what life throws her way,” Emily says. “We especially love this show because it is a story of determined hope — a ‘this little light of mine’ kind of hope. It’s the kind of contagious hope that makes the people around us stand up and say to the dark seasons and days of life: ‘It may be dark today, BUT the sun will come out tomorrow.’”
While it is set to be a fun show for all, this summer musical series also carries a larger purpose. They will be raising money for a local organization throughout the show’s run.
“Each summer we support a local organization changing lives in the community,” Emily says. “This year it’s Zoie’s Place, which helps girls who are aging out of foster care. In addition, we have numerous local businesses who have donated more than 40 awesome prizes for our raffle benefitting Zoie’s Place.”
Attendees can make donations to Zoie’s when they are purchasing their tickets or at the show by purchasing raffle tickets.
So come out to support a great cause and take in a delightful performance. The night will feature everything from a performance from a live dog to photo opportunities. It’s not one to miss! You can purchase tickets on their website.
