From beautifully-lit concerts to comedic and entertaining original musicals, this weekend is filled with all kinds of shows that you won't want to miss.
AUG. 16 | BASS PERFORMANCE HALL
Get ready to say “Amen” as the feel-good musical comedy smash hit of the season comes to Fort Worth! Based on the 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg, “Sister Act” follows a disco diva as she’s thrust into a religious convent for protective custody. But when her cover is blown, she needs to rely on the power of faith to get her through it. Featuring original music by Tony and Oscar award-winning composer Alan Menken, “Sister Act” will give you more than a few reasons to rejoice.
AUG. 17 | AT&T STADIUM
It’s nearly quitting time, and there’s no better country music star to bring it home than Zach Bryan. Winning Best New Male Artist at the Academy of Country Music Awards, this Grammy-nominated singer has sold 30 million albums worldwide, including his self-titled record from last year. With his newest album, “The Great American Bar Scene,” debuting on the Fourth of July, this American heartbreaker will perform his biggest hits alongside the likes of Jason Isbell, the 400 Unit and Levi Turner. Whatever happens, you’ll remember everything this amazing evening has to offer.
AUG. 17 | TOYOTA MUSIC FACTORY
It may not be “The Tonight Show,” but it certainly feels like it thanks to The Roots’ spirited and soulful jams. Founded in 1987 by hip-hop duo Amir “Questlove” Thompson and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, this Grammy and NAACP Award-winning musical act has served as the house band for Jimmy Fallon’s nighttime talk show for 16 seasons. Captivating audiences with their electrifying sound and energetic R&B, this legendary crew will take you back to their roots in a way that speaks to their love for music and life.
AUG. 6-18 | MUSIC HALL AT FAIR PARK
Fanny Brice is by far the greatest star, and you’ll know it when you see “Funny Girl!” Based on the original Broadway show starring Barbara Streisand, this sensational revival will dazzle audiences with its irresistible charm and iconic musical score that earned its place in the Grammy Hall of Fame. With classic songs including “People,” “You Are Woman, I Am Man” and “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” this love letter to musical theater shines brighter than the brightest lights on Broadway.
AUG. 15-30 | DALLAS
Few things are as tranquil as an elegant evening of music alongside a beautifully lit candle backdrop. Luckily, music lovers have both of these things to look forward to with these candlelight concerts. For the month of August, classically trained musicians will be playing covers from some of this generation’s biggest artists, including Adele, Fleetwood Mac, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Beyonce. Whether you come for the soulful sounds or the serene scenery, you will experience music in a whole new light.
