It's Time To Get Your Furnace Ready For Winter
What’s happening: The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is forecasting a colder and wetter winter this year for most of the South, including Texas.
Here’s why: The reason is the El Niño weather pattern now in place. Yep, that’s the same culprit that just brought us the second-hottest summer since the Department of Agriculture began keeping records in 1881 (the Weather Bureau didn’t come along until 1917).
What it means: Without getting into the details of trade winds and warm water building up along the equator in the eastern Pacific, we’ll just say that El Niño means hotter, drier summers and colder, wetter winters for the Southlake area.
Keep in mind: The DFW area’s coldest days dip into the teens and 20s in January and February, and we hit -2 degrees in 2020 and 2021. That is dangerous cold!
With regular maintenance, your furnace will last longer and cost less to operate. If you have a gas furnace, we will check for problems that could let deadly carbon monoxide gas into your home.
Take an Extra Look at Your AC, Too.
The endless days of 100-degree-plus temperatures appear to be over for this year – after Texas recorded our second-hottest summer on record. Finally, your air conditioner doesn’t have to run full out, 24 x 7.
The long drive: Your central air conditioning just completed an endurance run comparable to driving your car 60,000 – 100,000 miles.
Why that matters: Would you drive your car that much for some routine maintenance? Probably not. We tend to notice car problems fast because we are close to the source of a new noise when driving.
Central HVAC equipment is located in attics and outside in Texas, so we may not notice new noises right away.
If your AC is making noises you don’t normally hear, or if it doesn’t seem to be cooling enough, we’ll be glad to check it out with you when we do your furnace tuneup.
