According to old Southlake folklore, Jesse James used to stay in the barn on the property while escaping lawmen in the 1800s. The land was one large tract that included neighboring lots before being homesteaded by George Washington Mills. The property then went to Naomi Cleo Howard, then sold off later in the 80s.

Originally suited as farmland, 702 S. White Chapel was once part of 710 S. White Chapel Blvd. before being sold, creating the current 702 S. White Chapel Blvd. After a fire presumably broke out from a lightning strike, the property burned down, only for 702 S. White Chapel Blvd. to rise from the ashes brick by brick in 2012.
