This spring break, Grapevine Vintage Railroad (GVRR) is offering an unparalleled adventure for train enthusiasts, history buffs and families alike. From March 12-14, guests have the unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the golden era of rail travel aboard a vintage locomotive featuring 1920s-era coaches. With excursions scheduled to depart at 11:50 a.m. and 1:50 p.m. every day, this event promises to create unforgettable memories and provide a fascinating insight into railroad history.
Amidst the technological transformations that have revolutionized locomotives and carriages, the core jobs essential to running the railroad have remained unchanged through the ages. The GVRR will shine a spotlight on these historical professions, offering learning stations dedicated to the roles of the section hand, brakeman, conductor, telegrapher, and station master. At each station, participants will not only gain a deeper understanding of these pivotal roles but also earn a unique craft button as a memento of their learning experience.
The adventure doesn’t end there. Once guests have collected all five craft buttons, they will be awarded the coveted Junior Train Master Button, a token of their exploration into the world of trains. Further enriching this educational voyage, attendees will have the chance to meet the conductor onboard, a personal interaction that is sure to ignite the imaginations of both young and adult guests alike. To ensure attendees walk away as budding train experts, each will receive a crew handbook, detailing the intricacies and fascinating aspects of railroading.
The Grapevine Vintage Railroad's spring break excursions represent more than just a nod to the past — they offer a hands-on approach to learning and a chance to immerse oneself in the enduring legacy of the railway system. Located in the heart of Grapevine, this event is tailored for those passionate about trains, educators seeking an engaging learning activity for students and families looking for a unique way to spend time together.
