“As the owners of Rainmakers, we love to see our Southlake friends in New Mexico.”— Bill and Kathryn Vaughan
Premium residences, pueblo-style townhomes, a 7,110-yard golf course and the most breathtaking views you’ve ever seen. All of this and more is waiting at Rainmakers Resort and Club in New Mexico, which has become home to many former Southlake residents.
A hidden southwestern gem that bears similarity to high-class ski towns, Rainmakers Resort & Club is a luxurious lifestyle community located in the village of Alto, New Mexico. The crown jewel is the championship golf course, which was masterfully designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones II. With 18 holes spanning vast acreage of protected lands, this natural beauty has been named the No. 1 Golf Course in New Mexico and the 32nd best course in America by “Golfweek Magazine.”
Far from its only offering, Rainmakers also boasts several other attractive amenities, including an elite clubhouse, a 123-seat restaurant and a world-class performing arts center in the adjoining Spencer Theater. Members can indulge in local entertainment at Ruidoso Downs Race Track, The Inn of the Mountain Gods Casino and Ski Apache Resort. As an exclusive perk for members, Rainmakers will be introducing a pool this summer. Plus the community is immediately adjacent to 26,000 acres of recreational public lands that are perfect for hiking, biking and horseback riding.
All of this might explain why more and more Southlake residents are making their way to Rainmakers. Aside from the owners Bill and Kathryn Vaughan, many Southlake families have made Rainmakers their new home. Russ and Cindy Seacat in particular lived in Southlake for 20 years, and they loved Rainmakers so much that they sold their home and moved out there permanently in 2021. Their sons, IV and Race, and their colleague Mason McGuire and his wife Madisyn are currently building houses on the property through their business M4 Construction, with the first home expected to be completed in June.
“The scenery is absolutely spectacular,” Russ says. “The weather is phenomenal. You can go skiing in the morning and play golf in the afternoon. You can’t do things like that in too many places.”
But they’re not the only builders out there. As a second-generation home builder spawning off of Southlake-based Conn-Anderson Homes, twins Donny and Ronnie Anderson saw a unique opportunity with Rainmakers. With five luxury modern mountain homes currently under construction and many more on the way, their business Dylan Homes is set to become a preeminent partner with Rainmakers through a 10-year development plan.
“I call Rainmakers ‘Adventureland,’” Donny says. “Anything you want, you can do out here.”
Whether you’re talking about the homes or the people, there’s a lot of Southlake that lives in Rainmakers Resort and Club — that’s part of what makes it so special.
