Wear Hearing Protection
Noise-induced hearing loss is one of the most common types of hearing loss. You may not realize it, but you are likely exposed to dangerously loud sounds many times. Any sound over 85 decibels can be harmful to your hearing and can lead to hearing loss. This includes live music, fireworks, lawnmowers, hairdryers, motorcycles and power tools. It’s crucial to wear hearing protection such as earplugs to prevent noise-induced hearing loss.
Educate Yourself
There is a lot to learn about hearing loss and communication disorders. In order to normalize and decrease the stigma surrounding hearing loss, it is important to spread awareness. There are plenty of resources online that can help you get started. Check out ASHA.org to learn more.
Schedule Annual Hearing Exams
It’s important to have your hearing checked regularly, just like you visit a doctor every year or go to the dentist on a regular basis. We can test your hearing and track any changes in your hearing ability. The earlier any changes in hearing are detected, the more proactive you can be in correction, which further reduces the rate of progression.
