Dr. Mark Mason Celebrates 20 Years At Southlake Plastic Surgery
Dr. Mark Mason is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is the medical director and founder of Southlake Plastic Surgery. As a child growing up in the dusty cotton fields of West Texas, Dr. Mason never dreamed he would end up as a surgeon.
Dr. Mason was introduced to medicine during his bull-riding days in West Texas when he suffered the last of many injuries. He earned a bull riding scholarship to college and originally thought he would work in veterinary medicine. However, his last bull riding competition resulted in a broken jaw, and his interest in surgery and the care he received from his surgeon changed the direction of his career choice.
Dr. Mason was fortunate to meet an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in San Angelo, Texas, who mentored him first through dental school, then during his first residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Texas Health in San Antonio.
After his six-year integrated program during, which time he graduated first in his medical school class, Dr. Mason continued his training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Mason then decided to move back to his home state of Texas with his family to begin his private practice and enjoyed both the reconstructive and cosmetic aspects of plastic surgery.
In April 2000, Dr. Mason founded Southlake Plastic Surgery with three employees working out of a small temporary office. As he built his cosmetic practice, he also operated for several years at Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth as a pediatric craniofacial surgeon.
Over the years, he gained the reputation as a caring, compassionate and talented surgeon as evidenced by all the “Best Of” awards he has won as well as the reviews his patients are so willing to share online. Along with Dr. Mason’s many grateful cosmetic patients, he also hears from former pediatric craniofacial patients like Anna S., now a nursing student in college.
She recently wrote to him and shares, “I just want to thank you for everything you did for me. I don’t remember much, but my parents have told me what an amazing surgeon you were. Because of you I have been able to grow up as a normal kid and pursue things I love such as dance…I also was able to pursue my interest in the medical field by becoming a certified nursing assistant was I was 15…. I can only hope that I am half as compassionate and skillful as you were with me and my family.”
Dr. Mason often receives these kinds of comments from many grateful patients whose lives have been changed with surgery, whether reconstructive or cosmetic. Dr. Mason continues to learn, experience and practice the art and science of plastic surgery to the benefit of his patients.
