Is A 20-Minute Workout Really Long Enough?
Is a 20-minute workout really long enough? The answer is yes, 20 minutes is enough to make a change in your muscle fibers and improve your health!
"Strength Changes Everything" podcast co-hosts Brian Cygan and Amy Hudson, Exercise Coach founder and franchisee, reveal the truth behind the fitness industry and why you don't need to spend hours at the gym every week in order to stay fit and healthy.
To reverse the effects of age-related muscle loss and restore muscle mass, you need to do exercises that are focused on building fast-twitch muscle fibers. The exercises that stimulate fast-twitch muscle fibers need to be intense and brief. Anything longer than 60-90 seconds per exercise won't stimulate the fast-twitch muscle fibers. Therefore, total body conditioning can be achieved in a 20-minute workout.
The 20-minute workout is not the bare minimum. It's actually the specific length of time you need to optimally recruit, stimulate and fatigue the right muscle fibers. Research shows that a 20-minute strength training workout performed twice a week at the right intensity level will provide all the health benefits people want from a workout.
The key to increasing muscle strength, reversing the aging process and restoring optimal health is to work at the right intensity level and engage the fast-twitch muscle fibers. Learn more about the science behind the 20-minute workout in the "Strength Changes Everything" podcast episode 82.
