There is so much research now that there are actually morality benefits associated with strength training. The question is actually, ‘Is it safe for them not to?'
- Brian Cygan, Exercise Coach Founder
In this episode of the "Strength Changes Everything" podcast series, Brian Cygan, Exercise Coach founder and Amy Hudson, an Exercise Coach franchisee, explain it is never too late to enjoy the health benefits of high-intensity strength training and that high-intensity strength training can be safe at any age. And that includes seniors!
For adults over the age of 60, the benefits of strength training include offsetting and preventing increased blood pressure, decreased bone density and elevated blood sugar levels. That’s fantastic news! Who doesn’t want to offset the effects of aging and live a healthier life?
In fact, studies have shown that when performed correctly, the benefits of high-intensity strength training outweigh the risks of not doing it. Often people are concerned about performing exercises correctly and safely. Safety concerns can be separated into two categories: orthopedic safety and cardiovascular safety.
The slow and controlled nature of the exercises performed at Exercise Coach is the key to making it safe for anyone to do. It is possible to increase the intensity of the exercise without adding undue stress on joints and bones. Additionally, the high-intensity strength training applies a profound cardiovascular stimulus that improves the cardiovascular system and metabolic health.
