Jaw Line Check: Chin Augmentation
There is no question that by adding volume to face, there will be a significant cosmetic and sometimes even functional enhancement.
During facial assessment, the face is often divided into the upper face, midface and lower face. Typically, the lower face comprises the posterior, middle and anterior jawline; the perioral area; and the lips. Clinically age-related changes within the lower face manifest as the following.
- Vertical/perioral rhytides
- Elongation and thinning of the upper lip
- Marionette lines
- Jowl forming "broken jawline"
- Deepening of the labiomental groove nasolabial folds
A major development in aesthetic facial rejuvenation has been the recognition that facial volume loss, irrespective of cause (physiological aging or pathological disease), affects the 3-dimensional (3D) topography of the face. There are obvious variations between different ethnicities, and these anatomical differences must be respected when considering your options.
Fundamentally, the aim of volume restoration is to target all levels of the facial soft tissue envelope commencing with re-establishment of deep structural support. Lower-face rejuvenation techniques are now targeted toward providing underlying structural support and are focused on replenishing volume loss in the deeper tissues such as fat, muscle and bone in order to restore youthful characteristics.
The following treatment modalities can be employed: non-surgical, like fillers, and surgical, like implants and orthognathic surgery.
Voluma
Juvederm Voluma is a facial filler made up of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that helps to bind water to cells. it is the first and only filler to receive U.S. FDA approval for the augmentation of the chin region. Typically, it lasts up to two years and costs up to $1,000 per syringe.
Silicone Chin Implants
Similar to a breast implant, an artificial chin implant is made of silicone, with a variety of sizes available to be best fit each patient’s needs. Unlike a breast implant, however, this implant is solid, so there is no chance of rupture. During surgery, a small incision is made beneath the chin, or alternatively, inside the mouth. Next, the chin implant is inserted. For your safety and comfort, Chin Augmentation Surgery is performed under IV sedation in our surgical suite. Surgery only takes about an hour with minimal recovery time needed. On average, chin augmentations cost $4,500.
Genioplasty
Genioplasty is a form of cosmetic surgery that involves repositioning or reshaping the chin to improve facial harmony. By far, this is one of the most performed procedures at Stone Surgical Arts to improve the chin permanently, and it can cost up to $7,000.
Orthognathic Surgery
Patients with a skeletal deformity may present with a concave or convex contour of the chin and jaw, which may require jaw surgery to not only correct their occasion but also their jaw profile.
