The Importance of Finding The Right Botox Provider
Many people turn to Botox to fight against fine lines and wrinkles, but to achieve the youthful look you’re after, you definitely don’t want to choose just any Botox provider. At Southlake Plastic Surgery & Med Spa, Botox treatments are administered by our experienced and highly trained nurse injectors who are certified and credentialed by their medical organizations as well as having advanced national training. What exactly is Botox?
Dermal fillers are not the same thing as Botox, even though many people use the terms synonymously. Dermal fillers are a type of injectable that is usually made of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid plumps your skin to fill in wrinkles and reduce skin laxity. You can also choose to use them in your lips to perfect your pout.
Botox is the brand name for Allergan’s product, Botox Cosmetic®, bacterium clostridium botulinum, that prevents muscle contractions. The name Botox is used by many people as a generic term for all botulinum neurotoxins or also known as neuromodulators. Botulinum toxin type A is an injectable neurotoxin manufactured under the names Botox Cosmetic® (the first botulinum toxin on the market), Dysport® , Xeomin® , Jeuveau® , and others that are available in other countries.
Without those contractions, the muscles relax, and that helps your skin appear smoother and more youthful. Botulinum neurotoxins prevent wrinkles that form from squinting, smiling and frowning. (For the purposes of this article, all botulinum neurotoxins/neuromodulators will be referred to as Botox.)
The areas to treat using Botox include between the eyebrows, the forehead and crows’ feet (the fine lines along the sides of the eyes also known as smile lines). Botox is sent by manufacturers as a crystalline substance which is then diluted with saline before it is injected. An inexperienced doctor or injector may over-dilute the Botox so that the full effects of the Botox injection do not occur. A common concern for patients is that they are worried their faces will look stiff after Botox injections. The right injector will give you beautiful, natural results. At the end of the day, the injections should help you look more rested and relaxed.
To find the best Botox injector, it’s important to ask questions before booking an appointment. Some places will generally say they have neuromodulators without identifying which ones they use. At Southlake Plastic Surgery & Med Spa, we offer both Botox Cosmetic® and Dysport® neuromodulators.
If you’re not sure which one you want, you can always speak to one of our specialists to help you make the decision. Some patients have reported that Dysport gives faster results than Botox, though this can definitely vary from person to person. Full results for Botox usually take about three to five days to appear while Dysport may only take two to three days. Botox Cosmetic® has been around longer so some people feel more comfortable with Botox. Botox has been FDA approved since 2002. Keep in mind that both Dysport and Botox Cosmetic® use botulinum toxin, which has been known for over a century and used for medical purposes for over 50 years.
The dilution formula for Botox differs from Dysport, and the number of dosage units will differ as well. Botox tends to stay closer to the injection site, so if you need more than one area treated, you may need more injections closer together.
