Jan. 4-9 | Bass Hall
“Dear Evan Hansen” is a heartfelt story about life, dreams, mental health and a high schooler who finds a way to fit in despite the horrible circumstances he finds himself in. The live production comes to Bass Hall this month, and whether you fall in love with the music or relate to the show’s emotional themes, you will be found.
What The Constitution Means To Me
Jan. 4-9 | Winspear Opera House
Challenge yourself to think about the U.S. Constitution in a new way by seeing the famed play “What The Constitution Means To Me” by Heidi Schreck. When she was 15, Schreck paid for college by winning constitutional debates across the country. Based on Schreck’s own family history, this timely play covers the history of the Constitution and the minority groups it left out. This Tony-nominated and Pulitzer Prize-finalist production stars Cassie Beck from Amazon Prime’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” Don’t miss it when it comes to the Winspear Opera House this month.
Jan. 8 | Plano
What will you do for a hot stack of sugary sweet pancakes? If the answer is run a 5K, then you’re in luck! The Hotcake Hustle is back, and pancake lovers will get the chance to run a 5K, 10K or fun run so they can make room for some pancakes! Check out this fan-favorite run at the Oak Point Nature Preserve in Plano, where you can work up an appetite before enjoying the hotcakes, coffee, hot chocolate and Yuengling beer at the after-party. Participants get a hotcake-themed long-sleeve shirt and their choice of charity partner when they purchase a ticket.
Jan. 8 - Feb. 6 | Bass Hall
While many have seen the televised production on Disney+, listened to the original Broadway soundtrack too many times to count and practically memorized every line of this amazing musical, seeing “Hamilton” live and in-person is sure to blow everyone away. Don’t throw away your shot to see it in Fort Worth!
Jan. 14-Feb. 5
For 126 years, the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo has been known as “the most authentic western lifestyle experience anywhere.” Even non-cowboy fans can’t help but be intrigued with this legendary rodeo. Strap on your boots and put on your Stetson, because this show is full of exciting events, including the Best of the West Ranch Rodeo, the Best of Mexico Celebración, the Cowboys of Color Rodeo, Bulls Night Out Extreme Bull Riding and the Rodeo X Extreme Team Competition. Yee-haw!
Jan. 14 | Texas Trust CU Theatre
Creepy clowns, terrifying werewolves and crazy conspiracy theories are just a regular part of work for Ben Kissel, Marcus Parks and Henry Zebrowski. The trio has been either creeping out listeners or making them laugh since 2011 with the “Last Podcast On The Left,” which covers all things horror, including true crime, monsters, hauntings, cults, killers and more. See them live at their latest tour stop in Grand Prairie, if you dare.
Jan. 15 | Dallas
Chocolate treats are given at rest stops and at the finish line of the amazing Chocoholic Frolic 5K. This marathon is designed for serious chocoholics. After all, what better motivator could there be than delicious, creamy, rich chocolate? Attendees will love meeting other chocolate lovers after the race and showing off their heart-shaped medals before eating more chocolate. Turns out that sweats and sweets are the perfect combination.
Jan. 15 | Frisco
Hats, scarves and hoodies are encouraged at the Cocoa Classic 5K run in Frisco. While the marathon will be quite chilly in the middle of January, bundling up and running through a hard-to-breathe winter chill will be worth it when you sip on a delightfully warm beverage at the end! After the race through the pretty Frisco Square, participants will be treated to a cute commemorative mug, a chocolate-covered pretzel, snacks and creamy hot cocoa to warm their souls. Proceeds benefit Frisco Family Services, which helps community members through difficult life situations.
Jan. 18-30 | Winspear Opera House
Travel to the underworld to experience a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience in “Hadestown.” Written by Anaïs Mitchel, who was named one of “Time’s” Most Influential People of 2020, “Hadestown” won eight 2019 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and a 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The musical intertwines the mythic tales of dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice with King Hades and his wife Persephone in a wildly unique journey of industry vs. nature, doubt vs. faith and fear vs. love. The stunning sets and can’t-look-away choreography complete the phenomenal performance that will stick with you long after the curtain closes.
Jan. 22 | Dallas
Push your body to the limit at Urban Ultra Dallas, which offers options for a 5K, 10K, half-marathon, marathon and 50K race, which is a whopping 31 miles. This race takes place on the Dallas Skyline trail, offering fantastic views of the city over an afternoon and evening. Afterward, reward yourself with music, food trucks and more set against a beautiful backdrop. It’s a one-of-a-kind way to jumpstart your New Year’s resolutions!
Jan. 25-26 | American Airlines Center
Elton John will gracefully and powerfully perform one last time on this highly anticipated Farwell Yellow Brick Road: The Final Tour this month. The concert, which was postponed from June 2020 due to COVID-19, features English singer, songwriter, pianist and composer Sir Elton John in a spectacular show filled with his greatest hits, including “Rocket Man,” “Your Song” and “Tiny Dancer.” This pop star has five Grammy Awards, a Grammy Legend Award and countless Academy Awards, Juno Awards, Golden Globe Awards, Tony Awards, BRIT Awards and many more. He has also sold over 300 million records, cementing him as one of the best-selling musicians of all time.
An Evening With Dog The Bounty Hunter
Jan. 28 | Wyly Theatre
Known for his long blonde hair and stunning ability to track people down, Dog the Bounty Hunter is a TV star, bounty hunter and former bail bondsman. He starred in his own A&E TV show from 2003-2012, as well as his new WGN America series “Dog’s Most Wanted.” Now this ex-con-turned-reality-TV-icon will answer audience questions at Wyly Theatre and share how he turned his life around while catching criminals across the country. Because with Dog the Bounty Hunter, it’s always an entertaining evening.
Revolution: The Music Of The Beatles
Jan. 28-30 | Meyerson Symphony Center
Beatles superfans are invited to a remarkable experience with “Revolution: The Music Of The Beatles,” presented by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. This show pays tribute to the Grammy-winning pop group from the ‘60s made up of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The DSO and top vocalists will “Come Together” to perform original arrangements alongside rare photos and videos of one of England’s most iconic rock bands. Get ready to sing your heart out to “Ticket To Ride,” “Penny Lane,” “All You Need Is Love,” “Get Back,” “Hey Jude” and more.
Jan. 29 | Dallas
Snowflakes may or may not be falling in Texas, but you’ll still feel as frozen as a snowman at the Too Cold To Hold race in Dallas this month. Make your way along a 5K, 10K or half-marathon trail at Norbuck Park, with pristine views of White Rock Lake to guide your path. Afterward, warm up with your new long-sleeve T-shirt, warm drinks, free food and awesome music by DJ Dame at the after-party.
