Long before she became CEO of the consulting firm PeopleResults, Patti Johnson was a senior executive with the professional services company Accenture. Patti had everything that came with the corporate life – an assistant, financial security, benefits, the whole gamut.
But there was one thing missing in her life that she wanted more than anything else: control.
“I wanted to have a little bit more control over my life,” Patti says. “I started talking to people who started their own businesses, and I thought I could probably do that. That was not a comfortable decision for me to make. Jumping into starting my own business was scary.”
The reward ended up being worth the risks for Patti, as she not only secured PepsiCo. as her first client, but also later consulted high-profile Fortune 100 companies such as Microsoft, 7-Eleven, Dell, Frito-Lay and Neiman Marcus.
“I felt like I was at a point of my career where I knew all the answers,” she says. “I thought I knew how things worked. Starting over, listening and learning constantly, trial and error, being willing to experiment a little bit, trust my gut - all of those were things that my planning self found uncomfortable.”
Patti is returning to Southlake Style’s 2019 Women’s Luncheon after appearing as the keynote speaker last year. Patti will lead this year’s diverse panel of women during the event, including Texas Restaurant Association CEO and keynote speaker Emily Knight.
Patti says she looks forward to the opportunity for women to learn the same lessons that she has.
“As women, getting out there and telling your story and what works might just be something somebody else needs to hear,” Patti says. “You’ll never know what you might learn. If there’s one idea or one comment that causes somebody to think about something new or try something different, then I think that's time well spent.”
